Özet
This study aimed to investigate the connection between attention and reading speed in children. The research design used descriptive analysis and a relational screening model. The sample consisted of 334 students aged 9-12 studying in 3rd and 4th grades in schools in Bakırköy, Istanbul. The research was conducted at 60th Year Primary School, Muhittin Üstündağ Primary School. Study group of the research criterion sampling method, one of the purposive sampling methods, was used. The study obtained data using the Personal Information Form, Reading Speed Measurement, and D2 Attention Test Scale. The data obtained from the study were previously recorded in the SPSS 25.00 program in a controlled manner. The types of analysis used were determined according to the research problems, and Pearson correlation analysis was used for the presence of relationships between variables. The level of the variables in the research was revealed with descriptive statistics, and comparison (t-test and ANOVA) tests were used to examine the differentiation status according to the independent variables. The analysis found a weak positive relationship between reading speed per minute and the total number scores of the d2 attention test among the participating children. Additionally, significant differences were observed between reading speed per minute scores and certain sociodemographic characteristics of the participants. In this sense, conducting similar research with different age groups can contribute to how students' reading speeds vary according to class and age. © 2024 The Author(s).
