Öğe Crisis management and the impact of pandemics on religious tourism(Dublin Institute of Technology, 2020) Mosier, William; Elhadary, Tariq; Elhaty, Ismail A.; Safaei, MehdiThe spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has caused a worldwide shockwave of fear and much misinformation leaving chaos in its wake. Holy shrines and other religious sites have a special place in the hearts and minds of many people. For example, the mosques in Makkah and Medina, Saudi Arabia typically accommodate over one hundred thousand Muslims daily. Due to the spread of COVID-19, both mosques were forced to shut their doors to pilgrims for health and safety reasons. This situation has saddened millions of Muslims all over the globe. The same situation applies to Qom City in Iran, Bethlehem on the West Bank, and the Vatican City. Precautionary actions have caused religious shrines to remain closed until further notice. The methodology used in this study is descriptive and multi-disciplinary. In this paper, the issue of COVID-19 is addressed from the perspective of medical science, chemistry, management science, economics, and religious sociology. This paper sheds light on the history of the virus, its effect on the global economy and crisis-management measures involving sacred places. The paper investigates how faith can expedite the recovery strategies of religious tourism, and consequently the tourism sector will follow suit. The paper elaborates on the potential impact of the pandemic on the future of religious tourism and how the psychological impact of closing Holy Shrines to pilgrims can be a strong driving force for a speedy recovery once the pandemic trickles off. © International Journal of Religious Tourism and PilgrimageÖğe EFFECT OF TWEEN 80 ON THE STABILITY AND CONFORMATION OF TELOMERIC G-QUADRUPLEX DNA(Lviv Polytech Natl Univ, 2023) Elhaty, Ismail A.G-quadruplex DNA is formed in telomer. It inhibits telomerase enzyme which is found active in more than 85 % of cancer cells. In this work, the effect of Tween 80 on telomeric G-quadruplex DNA, AGGG(TTAGGG)3 was studied using circular dichroism spectroscopic technique. The obtained results showed that using Tween 80 with telomeric quadruplex is safe up to less than 1.0 %.Öğe In-situ, facile and green preparation of nanoscale silver supported on activated carbon: Disinfection properties and removal of inorganic DBPs from drinking water(Elsevier B.V., 2022) Soliman, Ahmed M.; Elshorbagy, Walid; Maraqa, Munjed A.; Al-Issai, Laila M.; El Sheikh, Ehab S.; Elhaty, Ismail A.; Ayesh, Ahmad I.Activated carbon (AC) was prepared from date palm leaves by phosphoric acid activation. The factors affecting the carbon percentage yield such as phosphoric acid concentration, synthesis temperature, and heating time were studied. The prepared AC was studied by chemical analysis of the functional groups on its surface. The prepared AC was decorated with silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) by in-situ reduction of adsorbed silver ion. Silver ions were introduced on carbon surface by adsorption and ion exchange. Characterization of the prepared AC was performed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), X-ray diffraction (XRD), infra-red spectroscopy (IR), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Results showed that silver ions are impregnated and reduced to Ago NPs with sizes between 30 and 50 nm on the surface of AC. The disinfection properties of Ag-loaded AC were tested for Escherichia Coli and Staphylococci bacteria. The removal of some inorganic disinfection by products (DBPs) including iodate, chlorate, chlorite, and bromate were tested. The results showed that the prepared AC-Ag is effective for antibacterial disinfection and inorganic anions removal applications. © 2021Öğe Interaction between GW2974 and telomeric G-quadruplex DNA: a possible anticancer mechanism(Springer Int Publ Ag, 2021) Elhaty, Ismail A.Human telomere consists of tandem repeats of guanines; thus, it can form an intramolecular G-quadruplex structure, which can inhibit the telomerase enzyme that is found active in more than 85% of cancer cells. The present work investigated the interactions of GW2974, a quinazoline derivative with telomeric G-quadruplex AG(3)(TTAGGG)(3.) GW2974 had shown a good affinity to G-quadruplex DNA with a binding constant of 2.41 x 10(6) M-1 and melting temperature shift Delta Tm of 9.9 degrees C. Increasing the GW2974 ratio with DNA up to five times showed an inverse effect on G-quadruplex DNA stability. The stoichiometric ratio between GW2974 and TelQ (per strand) was 2:1. Results obtained from absorption, fluorescence, and CD spectroscopic techniques indicated that GW2974 interacted with G-quadruplex through different binding modes. GW2974 showed good specificity to quadruplex over duplex DNA by 4.71-fold. These results indicated that stabilizing of telomeric G-quadruplex inhibited telomerase enzyme, which could be a potential anticancer mechanism of GW2974.Öğe Potential key challenges for terahertz communication systems(Institute of Advanced Engineering and Science, 2021) Solyman, Ahmad A.A.; Elhaty, Ismail A.The vision of 6G communications is an improved performance of the data rate and latency limitations and permit ubiquitous connectivity. Terahertz (THz) waves will characterize 6G networks, due to 6G will integrate terrestrial wireless mobile communication, geostationary and medium and low orbit satellite communication and short distance direct communication technologies, as well as integrate communication, computing, and navigation. All rights reserved.Öğe Synthesis and spectroscopic characterization of rhodanine azo dyes as selective chemosensors for detection of iron(III)(Elsevier B.V., 2020) Akram, Dana; Elhaty, Ismail A.; AlNeyadi, Shaikha S.As the presence of (Fe3+) is strongly associated with many environmental and biomedical analysis, effective sensing methods are of great importance for monitoring Fe3+ levels in these systems. In this study, we synthesized a new rhodanine-based azo dye (4d) and compared it with compound (4c) which showed the best sensitivity and selectivity among our previously reported compounds. The interaction behaviors with Fe3+ ions using UV/vis, fluorescence, IR, and NMR spectrometric techniques were investigated. The spectroscopic characterization revealed that azo 4d showed high affinity towards Fe3+ ions with association constant of 5.35 × 108 M?1. Furthermore, it showed high sensitivity towards Fe3+ ions with detection limit of 7.05 µM. These results are almost similar to that of azo 4c. The molar ratio and Benesi–Hildebrand methods confirmed the formation of complexes between azo 4c,d and Fe3+ with 1:2 binding stoichiometry. NMR and IR analyses confirmed the coordination between Fe3+ and the nitrogen atom of the NH (hydrazone) group and the oxygen atom of the carbonyl (C=O) group. Owing to its good affinity and high sensitivity for Fe3+, azo 4d showed excellent potential for developing efficient Fe3+ chemosensors. © 2020Öğe TEACHING CHEMISTRY IN ENGLISH IN TURKISH UNIVERSITIES: CHALLENGES AND OBSTACLES(Natl Technical Univ Ukraine Kyiv Polytechnic Inst, Fac Linguistics, 2023) Elhadary, Tariq; Elhaty, Ismail A.No matter if they are in high school or college, Turkish students have particular challenges when trying to understand chemistry lectures delivered in English. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the difficulties Turkish students have when studying chemistry in English. A survey was administered to Turkish students at a Turkish University, nutrition and dietetics major in order to obtain relevant information. The results showed that 24.6% of students have difficulties learning chemistry in English, and 52.3% of the students are reluctant to give presentations in the chemistry class due to their lack of confidence in the English language. The results showed that the areas of weakness in the English language were conversational skills (78.5%), grammar (75.4%), vocabulary (75.4%), listening (72.2%), and reading (38.5%). Therefore, a considerable percentage of these students (48.6%) take their lecture notes in Turkish, and an overwhelming majority of them (46.2%) think that adding English terminology to textbooks alongside Turkish would help the problem. According to the research, it is possible to increase students' English skills and therefore their understanding of chemistry by employing various teaching strategies. To address communication hurdles in chemistry classes, the study heavily draws on both the Communicative and Natural Approaches.
