Öğe Assessment of Optimum Renewable Energy System for the Somalia-Turkish Training and Research Hospital in Mogadishu(Materials and Energy Research Center, 2021) Dursun, Sibel; Aykut, Ercan; Dursun, BahtiyarSomalia-Turkish Training and Research Hospital in Mogadishu, is only powered by diesel generator currently. In this paper, the energy demand of this hospital is utilized by determining the optimum hybrid renewable energy generating system. By HOMER, a sensitivity analysis has been made with emphasis on three significant variables such as average wind speed, present diesel price, and solar radiation. From the results, it can be said that an optimum system is the standalone wind-diesel-battery storage Hybrid Renewable Energy System (HRES) with the configuration of 1,000 kW wind turbine, 350 kW diesel generator, 250 kW power converters, and 300 batteries. Additionally, the net present cost of the optimum system is calculated to be $5,056,700 and its cost of energy is estimated to be 0.191 $/kWh. The present cost of energy for Somalia is 0.5 $/kWh. This shows that the energy cost for the proposed HRES is cheaper than the conventional one. Lastly, according to the results, it is clear that the wind-diesel-battery storage HRES seems more environment friendly than other HRESs. © 2021 The Author(s). Published by MERC. In this study, a hybrid renewable energy system (HRES) including biomass and solar as the source, has been investigated for Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Istiklal Campus in Burdur, Turkiye. The campus has an animal farm consisting of 300 cattle and 200 sheep. Therefore, manure of the animals will be used as the resource for biomass generation. HOMER software is used to simulate the system and to find the size and the quantity of the equipment according to the meteorological and biomass capacity of the campus. The optimum system is determined by means of net present cost (NPC) and the cost of energy (COE). In the simulation, wind energy is also investigated but since the wind speed is not sufficient to produce energy in the region, it is not considered in the optimum system. The optimum system is determined to be grid connected biomass-solar system with 5000 kW PV panels and a 1500 kW biomass generator assisted by the grid of 3000 kW. Also, the NPC of the system is estimated to be USD 18.800.000 and the COE for the system is calculated as 0,107 USD/ kWh. The system also reduces the emissions causing the global warming.Öğe Gamified Violin Playing in Virtual Reality Based Metaverse Environment(İzmir Akademi Derneği, 2023) Aykut, Ercan; Taş, SenaViolin is one of the most significant musical instruments of both Turkish and western music. It is a stringed instrument played with a bow. Due to its fretless nature, it is relatively difficult to learn and play the instrument, compared with other musical instruments. In this study, a violin has been modeled to be played in virtual reality and metaverse environment is for a better and more entertaining violin education. Even if the student does not actually have a violin in hand, by means of virtual reality glasses, the modeled violin can be seen in the virtual reality environment. The camera of the Oculus Quest 2 Virtual Reality Glasses and haptic gloves are used to sense the both student's finger pressing and bow movements. By means of this study, the student does not need to own a real violin. Considering that a good violin has a high cost, the student will not need to spend high cost to buy the instrument. Besides, the biggest problem of the violin and other stringed musical instruments is the tuning of the instrument. Without a good tuning, the strings will not sound harmoniously and the student will not be able to play correctly because of not hearing the correct sound. Tuning ability needs some experience. But there is no tuning problem in the violin modeled in this study since it does not have real strings which means that even a beginner level student will not have a tuning problem. Also, in this study, while playing various exercises and songs, the musical notes needed to be pressed on the violin are highlighted to ensure that the student confirms whether to play correctly. The study is an alternative material of violin education in a more entertaining way.Öğe The signifcance, potential and the current use of renewable energy in TR83 region, Türkiye(SPRINGER, ONE NEW YORK PLAZA, SUITE 4600 , NEW YORK, NY 10004, UNITED STATES, 2024) Aykut, Ercan; Dursun, BahtiyarThis study aims to present the potential of hydroelectric, wind, solar and biomass sources of the TR83 Region which ensures the sustainability and security of the supply. Besides, it reduces the environmental pollution and greenhouse gas emission in the atmosphere. The study demonstrates the present use of both renewable and nonrenewable energy sources together with the plants that will be under construction in the future in the TR83 Region, consisting of the cities Amasya, Tokat, Çorum and Samsun in mid black sea region in Türkiye, also shows the potential of GHG emission reduction together with the present and estimated values. Furthermore, this study proposes to increase the public awareness about the usage of the current potential of the sources and encourages the investors to make investments in the region.Öğe Wind energy potential and large-scale turbine performance analysis for Mogadishu – Somalia(Elsevier B.V., 2024) Dursun, Bahtiyar; Aykut, ErcanSomali is a country having energy supply discontinuously. Only 80 % of the country can reach electricity and it supplies most of the energy from fossil fuel. Moreover it requires different energy sources in order to meet the demand. In this study, the analysis of wind energy potential of Mogadishu, capital of Somalia, was realized. By using the realtime wind speed and wind direction, average wind speed and unit power density values at a particular height was calculated. By using these data with Weibull and Rayleigh probability density functions, average wind speed and wind energy was analyzed. According to the wind speed measurement analysis, the average wind speed was measured as 4494 m/s at 10 m height and calculated to be 6203 m/s at 100 m altitude where average wind power density was measured as 114,94 W/m2 at 10 m height and calculated to be 302,323 W/m2 at 100 m level. Weibull and Rayleigh probability distribution parameters were calculated by using MATLAB curve fitting tool as k = 1,71 and c = 5,03 m/s while a and b parameters were 0,165 and 1,71 respectively. As a result of the analysis, VESTAS V172-7,2MW was decided to be the most suitable wind turbine for Mogadishu. © 2024 International Energy Initiative
